Krishna is a central figure in Hinduism, revered as the eighth avatar of the god Vishnu and often worshipped as the Supreme God. Known for his dark blue skin and flute playing, he is the ultimate embodiment of love, compassion, and divine wisdom. Early Life and Childhood
Born in a prison in Mathura to Devaki and Vasudeva, Krishna was smuggled across the Yamuna River to Gokula to escape the tyrant King Kamsa. Raised by foster parents Nanda and Yashoda, his childhood was filled with miraculous feats and mischievous pastimes, such as stealing butter and subduing demons.
The Divine Lover and Devotion
As a youth in Vrindavan, he became known as the divine herdsman. His playful and mystical interactions with the Gopi (cowherd girls)—and his eternal romance with Radha—symbolize the ultimate, selfless devotion (bhakti) and the union between the human soul and the Divine.
The Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita
Throughout his adult life, Krishna established the city of Dwarka and emerged as a master strategist and guide. His most profound contribution is in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, where he serves as the charioteer to the Pandava prince Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Before the war, Krishna imparted timeless spiritual knowledge to Arjuna, which forms the text of the Bhagavad Gita. This sacred scripture addresses universal concepts of duty, righteousness (dharma), and yoga.
